M’town Public Works truck crashes: 2 drivers sent to hospital.

Middletown Township (Monmouth County, NJ) - Police investigated an accident involving three vehicles at approximately 9 a.m. this morning.

The accident involved two township Public Works trucks; west bound on Main Street in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown.

One of the trucks made a right turn onto Woodlawn at the intersection of Murphy Road and reportedly clipped the telephone pole there, knocking the pole down and causing wires to drop onto the second Public Works truck and a third vehicle.

Consequently, drivers were trapped in their vehicles until the JCP&L workers responded by cutting the power. Subsequently, drivers were removed from their vehicles without injury.

As a precautionary measure, occupants in township vehicles were transported by Leonardo First Aid to Riverview Medical Center, in Red Bank. The drivers would probably be released shortly after they were checked out, according to said Sgt. Fred Deickmann of the Middletown Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau.

The accident is currently under investigation by Patrolman Nick Caprio.
