Middletown (Monmouth County, NJ) - Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration will be held at the Middletown Arts Center on Sunday, December 6th at 5 p.m. The festivities feature the official lighting of the township Christmas tree, a visit from Santa Claus, and TUBACHRISTMAS.
TUBACHRISTMAS, is a yuletide musical tribute to the legendary tuba player William Bell, born on Christmas day in 1902. The first concert was held in his honor in 1974 at Rockefeller Center. Today thousands of tubists join together each December at TUBACHRISTMAS events held in nearly 200 cities worldwide. The Middletown Arts Center will host the only official TUBACHRISTMAS event in New Jersey. The community's tuba and euphonium players are invited to participate. Registration will be accepted on December 6th at the Arts Center at 2:30 p.m., with a rehearsal at 3:00 p.m.
Additional holiday highlights include performances by the Middletown H.S. North Choir and Brass Ensemble and Middletown H.S. South Choir, holiday crafting for children and fun with the Doodle Dude. The Middletown Parks Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department host the holiday celebration in partnership with the Middletown Arts Council. Event will be held rain or shine. Admission is free. Parents are invited to bring cameras for Santa pictures. Light refreshments are served. Scheduled activities may change in the event of inclement weather.
