Hamilton Township, NJ - Governor Chris Christie and Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno met with women business owners at a town hall meeting on Thursday, April 15, to discuss the issues facing New Jersey Association of women business owners (NJAWBO.)
NJAWBO is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the development and growth of women owned businesses. Since 1978, NJAWBO has grown to nearly 1,000 members with fourteen chapters across the state. As the longest standing statewide women business organization in the United States, NJAWBO represents the interests of the more than 290,000 women business owners in New Jersey.
At a time when the Governor and his staff are dealing with a state in mounting fiscal crisis, he found time to meet with members of the NJ Association of Women Business Owners, the State's premiere organization for women owned businesses.
At this invitation only event, attendees included members of the press and key business leaders. Members asked specific questions about the Governor's plans for improving New Jersey's Business climate. Members also asked the Governor if there were any plans to improve the ability of small businesses to gain access to capital and funding to sustain and expand their businesses. Many of the business owners in attendance wanted to know the Administration's position on improving procurement opportunities, specifically for women owned businesses and also how the Governor intended to respond to the recently passed federal healthcare bill. The Governor was also asked if he had plans to offer tax incentives and credits to New Jersey businesses.
Marya Grier, State President for NJAWBO, introduced the Governor and opened the event saying, "This is an exciting and historical day for NJAWBO. For the first time in 30 years we have been invited to have a public forum with the State Governor. We have been working hard as an organization and it is wonderful to have this recognition."
