Monmouth County, NJ - The Route 36 Highlands Bridge, currently under construction, which spans the Shrewsbury River received approval today from the Senate Transportation Committee to be renamed in honor of Joseph Azzolina, the "Captain Joseph Azzolina Memorial Bridge".
Senator Jennifer Beck was a friend of Captain, Senator and Assemblyman Azzolina, and considered him her mentor, having worked as his chief of staff during his time in the State Assembly. She is very pleased that the man she has always held in such high regard will be honored in this way. Beck, Senator Joseph Kyrillos and Senator Sean Kean sponsor the bill renaming the bridge.
"The Captain was a very important part of my life," said Beck, "and it means a lot that his name will forever be associated with the Bayshore, and area he prized so much. He was a man who truly loved New Jersey, and always kept the interests of New Jersey citizens at the heart of everything he did. The Captain was born to serve, and I know he would be honored with this tribute."
