As the summer season nears, Bayshore residents looking to establish a local hangout for a night out have a new option: Legends Bar and Grill, of Hazlet.
The home-style food and relaxed atmosphere of Legends provides an option outside of the chain restaurants this summer, according to General Manager Paul Buscher.
"There are very little mom and pop places left. We cook everything fresh and have the opportunity to be creative because there is no corporate boss restricting us," Buscher said. The American-style food varies from a classic hamburger, chicken sandwich or Philly cheese steak to filet mignon, basil salmon or lobster ravioli.
The walls of the dining room are lined with memorabilia of pop-culture favorites, such as The Beatles, “The Godfather” and “Rocky”. A large fireplace in the center of the dining room adds to the cozy feel. The casual atmosphere is perfect for family dining or a friendly bite.
Seasonal menu changes can be anticipated as well as daily specials, Buscher said. In addition to hand-cut steaks, the restaurant makes its own soups and chilies. The "raw products" lead to a less manufactured atmosphere and better taste, the manager added.
Only open since March, Legends already has a calendar of upcoming events, including a Mother's Day brunch. Look for theme dinner nights and a "Teen Night" in the banquet room this summer, Buscher said.
The banquet room seats between 50 and 20 people and includes a private restroom, bar and dance floor. It is available for reservations seven days a week for parties, such as graduations, birthdays or communions.
The sports bar provides an even friendlier atmosphere for adults of any age.
Lined with posters of the local teams, the sports bar is the perfect place to watch a game on one of more than a dozen televisions. Seasonal sports specials and happy hours are also available. The sports bar accommodates non-sports fans as well with dartboards and video games.
Friday nights are special because of the disc jockey entertainment from 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Thursday nights are marked by a shore special, "Beat the Clock," where Coors Light pints start at $1 and increase by 50 cents every hour.
"Any given night of the week there are an array of customers at our bar that blend comfortably together," Buscher noted. "This is a local place like Cheers, where everybody knows your name."
