Hazlet Crush takes two The Courier, May 8 Posted:05/13/08
Over the weekend of May 3, the U10 Hazlet United S.A. Crush continued their consistent spring run picking up two more wins and bettering their MNJYSA record to an impressive 6-1.
Hazlet’s first victory of the weekend was recorded against the Somerset Hills S.C. Tornadoes in a home match at the Hazlet Soccer Complex. The Hazlet squad, again with only one sub, played demonstrated solid teamwork from start to finish. Only seconds after the first-half kickoff, the Crush broke through the Somerset defense to score their first goal of the match. The second play of the game was equally impressive as Hazlet added their second goal only two minutes into the match giving the Crush a very early 2-0 lead. A little later in the half, two additional goals would give Hazlet a demanding a 4-0 lead going into the second half of play.
The Tornadoes did manage a goal in the second half but Hazlet netted two in response, giving them a solid 6-1 victory at the final whistle. Hazlet’s second win was awarded by an unexpected, and unwanted, forfeit from a team that withdrew themselves from league play.
The Crush again will enjoy the home field advantage in their next two outings as they take on the Branchburg Travel S.C. Kaos and the South Brunswick S.C. Flames hoping to add two more victories to their MNJYSA spring campaign. Their 10th, and final, MNJYSA game has yet to be determined.
The first tryout for the 2008-09 Hazlet Crush team will take place at 5:45 p.m. on Friday May 16 at the Hazlet United Soccer Complex. The Crush are looking for dedicated players born between August 1, 1997 and July 31, 1998 and Hazlet residency is not a requirement. A parent or guardian must accompany players.
