MATAWAN – This time honored, established restaurant has been serving well-informed diners for 75 years. Whether it is for a romantic dinner for two, a family gathering, that special occasion or the occasional night off from kitchen, people have been coming back because they have been satisfied with the cuisine as well as the atmosphere of gracious hospitality and impressive charm. The Buttonwood Manor, owned and operated by the Fotinos Family for three generations, has simply continued to maintain the finest quality of standards with a hands on approach.  This is the reason generations of families regard the Buttonwood Manor as a second home as proven with their repeat patronage throughout the years.

Several new happenings are in the works at the Buttonwood.  This includes upscale renovations in the dining room and the creation of new lunch and dinner menus with a more modern approach.  The bar area will be named “Michael’s Speak Easy Lounge” and will include a fresh new wine list. With the new “Speak Easy” comes Specialty Nights Tuesday through Friday, such as Wine and Cheese, Seafood Frenzy, Margarita Madness (on our outdoor patio) and Martini Madness. And in the near future, next to the lounge, will be a Steakhouse.

The Buttonwood Manor is recognized for weddings and banquets. Their logo is simply stated, “Elegance with Affordability.” They offer a customized menu for parties as quaint as 20 or as grand as 250. The party packages, which vary from buffet style to full service luncheon or dinner start as reasonably priced as $20. The charming Manor is located on the tree-encircled banks of Lake Lefferts and offers a magnificent view visible from the main dining room, the Terrace Room and, of course, the Caribee Room.

The Caribee Room provides a warm and inviting setting with a blend of old world charm and traditional elegance for that special day.  The gardens offer a beautiful setting as a back drop for your pictures.  They have updated the waterfall and added a new scenic patio that has magnificent colors during the spring, summer and fall and in the winter is lush with evergreens and seasonal flora. The deck is fresh with colorful flower pots and is lit at dusk.

To begin our evening, we always love ordering the Fried Calamari which is tender and flavorful, fried to a golden hue. Another must try which we  also recommend is a medley of Hot Appetizers for Two, each one better than the next, all filled with an abundance of flavor. The enormous platter was centered with Romano Cheese and a tasty sauce, seasoned to perfection. Other selections, each one a taste treat, included Fried Zucchini Sticks, Clams Casino, Stuffed Mushrooms, and Baked Oysters Rockefeller. This flavorful selection can be prepared for a party of two or more.

Our selection of entrees also proved to be extraordinary with beautiful presentations, each one looking like the dish came out of a gourmet magazine. The New York Sirloin Steak (a 14 ounce strip steak) was tender and exceptionally flavorful. The vibrant platter was filled with fresh vegetables and sliced potatoes. A seafood favorite among patrons is Salmon Calypso, a unique pan seared panko and herb-encrusted salmon with a citrus ginger glaze.

I can see why everyone loves this dish so much as it almost melted in our mouths it was so succulent and tasty. Another popular selection is Rack of Lamb, a generous rack prepared to our liking, rubbed with rosemary, accompanied with fresh steamed broccoli and Duchess potato, all dishes of distinction. Whatever your choice is from the eclectic menu I am sure that you will be completely satisfied and return for more samplings of the diversified selections. Enjoy.
