SEA BRIGHT – Nearly 400 people got into the holiday spirit early this year through their participation in the First Annual Holiday Express Clambake September 14 at Merri-Makers at the Water’s Edge.
An estimated $170,000 was raised to support the mission of Holiday Express, which was established in 1993 by Tim McLoone as a organization comprised of more than 600 volunteers – including 70 professional rock, jazz, folk, gospel, and pop musicians – who provide music, food, gifts, financial support and friendship throughout the year, but especially during the holiday season.
Highlights of the evening included a donation of nearly $40,000 by Holmdel resident Carol Stillwell. Stillwell’s contribution included underwriting the cost of the event, various auction items, and a cash donation.
Shore Point Distributing Co. covered the cost of beer and wine, while decorations and centerpieces were donated by the Trimco Corp.
A record-setting $26,000 was raised through a live auction. Top items included a week in St. Marten donated by Jim and Debbie Sharkey of Middletown, a week in St. John’s donated by Jay Patock of Tinton Falls, a Ruby Heart designed and donated by Michael Gomez of Englishtown, and an opportunity to sing on stage with the Holiday Express band.
