FAIR HAVEN – Dining here at Nauvoo Grill Club is a pleasurable experience featuring nothing but fun!
Whether it is for one of their signature burgers or for a full-course steak dinner, I have always enjoyed both selections to the fullest. Nauvoo offers upscale dining featuring a wide selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. Since its inception, people of all ages have flocked here to enjoy a casual meal, relax in the upscale lounge area to socialize with friends, or host a private party or business function.
The Nauvoo Grill Club is based on a mission style of architecture with decor inspired from the American “Arts and Crafts” period. Nauvoo means “beautiful, pleasant place” and showcases the unique architecture of the famous Frank Lloyd Wright, as well as American artist Frederick Remington.
They wanted to create a combination of both culture and sophistication of a former establishment with the warmth of a ski lodge. Many of you may have known the original restaurant as “The Lock, Stock and Barrel.” A complete renovation which included rich fine paneling completely changed the fine ambiance, which I call “elegant casual.” Nauvoo is now owned by Richard Bahadurian.
If you loved Nauvoo before you will love it even more as Executive Chef Brian Goodman is in the kitchen preparing his specialties, including many of his favorite Mediterranean dishes. He graduated third in his class from Brookdale Community College’s Culinary Program. He then ventured into Manhattan where he worked under the famous Charlie Palmer, followed by working under Danny Meyers, and later with the New Iron Chef Michael Simon. He now brings his expertise to Nauvoo so that you can enjoy his fabulous creations.
It was difficult choosing a starter as they were all very appealing. We decided on the Sesame Seared Rare Yellow Fin Tuna, highlighted with julienne vegetable salad with wasabi crème fraiche and topped with pickled ginger. The sliced tuna, served rare (according to our specifications), was filled with an abundance of flavor and was beautifully presented.
An evening special which was beyond expectations was Rigatoni Bolognese (tomato meat sauce and parmigianino cheese). The al dente pasta was rich with the especially prepared meat sauce.
If you are fond of scallops be sure to order Chef Goodman’s Pan Seared Scallops served with a chestnut puree, Brussels sprouts and bacon- maple-sherry glaze. Outstanding!
Nauvoo also offers a healthy array of salads to choose from. We loved the Clementine Salad, fresh greens with pine nuts, tossed with parmigiana cheese bacon champagne vinegar. Other choices include Lobster Salad, Arugula & Fennel, and Classic Caesar.
I must mention Navoo’s fabulous burgers which I frequently sample because I find that they are the best burgers you could possible find anywhere. Their signature burgers offer seven varieties. My favorite is the 12-oz. Kobe Beef Burger made with American raised Kobe beef USDA prime, served with cheddar and caramelized onions. Other choices include the Mexican, Turkey, Portobello or Ahi Tuna Burger, all prepared to perfection! Enjoy!
